for the first time, i think ive seen someone actually use some kind of below the belt tactic in the hoh :S

we were in the actual hoh map, in the first little fight before the bridge. we faced some koreans. we run in blablabla, about 5 seconds in to the match, all 8 people on the team experience intense lag, there screens are frozen for about 30 seconds, and everyone lags out of vent. when it unfroze, we were dead and one of the players on the other team was saying something about hacking.

the only thing which makes me think it wasnt specifically a *hack* on the part of the other team was that everyone in the SB/community vent also lagged out, which makes me think it wasnt the other team that hit us with it, but some error in the part of our vent server.

so my question is, has this happened to anyone else? does anet know about this? and is there something wrong with the sb vent?

but it was funny as hell, ill give you that

One time I was against a korean team and I lagged like crazy (I'd see a frame, then 15 seconds later see a new frame), and then I lagged out after 5 minutes. After I shutdown guildwars I realized that it was just my I-tunes completely bugging out on my system

i have noticed this sometimes with my browser on guru with that crappy ipod ad at the top eating my bandwidth. that would be funny if they hit you with a lag bomb through vent.

possible but highly unlikely.

actually i talked to some guys again and apparently it was 2 american teams and 3 korean teams.. both american guys lagged. i think the servers got lagged or somethin

LOL this was the madest cheat i had ever seen
it happened a few months ago and we had just got past the rifters
(back in the day) everything seemed cool and then i clicked ctrl to see my enmies there it was about 20 pets all called troll ungeunts and 1 necromancer i thought to myself hmm whats happening here when they reached us the pets exploded and all of us died very weird

LOL it was very funny

wow more ways for hackers to ruin our game, this is just as bad as the virgoods bot in the tombs (which Anet havent done anything about)

I dont think that they can intentionally make you Lag, it happens to me all the time, always in the same places.

Still, it makes me wonder why people would go to all the time & effort to create viruses or hacks for GW so they could win HoH.

It's most likely a leftover problem from that -- to lag out 16 seperate people's internet connections simultaneously would take some voodoo magic

voodoo magic is nice, but you could also overload the american gw server, giving everyone some hefty lag.

yes, its the server that has the problem. every now and then, servers will just fill up with people and lag and everyone will spontaneously drop. one time we were in hall and something like this happened. only one of our team managed to stay in the game and two members from each of the other two teams. our player was a monk so unforunately we lost. it does happen and it is quite annoying, but there isnt much to do but just suck it up.

there is definately a lag cheat as someone described it to our group. he was real careful about his wording so as he didnt actually ask us to do it but he let us know exactly how it was done. we kicked him anyway. he said it was a bridge you ran with 2 people outside of GW but it only lagged one person out not the whole team.

I used to know a group of guys, who about 7 years ago took down yahoo, ebay and google for a few hours all at the same time. They were arrested and it was all over the news.

If someone is stupid enough to attack a GW server just to win a game, then they need help.

Although, it does make sense that this happened as a result of normal lag. The further away an object is physically the more hops packets have to go through travelling from point A to point B and back. Any one of those hops could have had a routing issue.

My GvG vs a korean guild. I Experienced lag for the first time of the 2 months iv played the game, and i got disconnected with an error. Quite annoying as i am guild leader, and i needed to be there to tell my guildies on teamspeak what to do and were to go etc.

First time anything like that has ever happenned. Weird huh?

So that's why Koreans kick ass at online games. They're so far away that we lag so much, and they look like they're moving faster than they are! Sneaky devils.

yesterday evening i was in a tombs group. first battle in we met a guild team that shouted things like 'u r gonna bee [email protected]'. i ignored this (they had a guild rating of 1200 so i presumed some elitist n00bs, if they were acting like that)
they all had death nova on them and were (i think) all secondary necros. Necro bomb i thought. no EoE though. i decided to stay back, i wasn't going to fall for that.

we all died. no numbers above our heads. no nothing. simply the ceaseation of the collective life of every single member of our team.
I didn't take a screenshot cos i was in shock.

Let's look at it from a technical point:

But i'll explain if you want:
GW is serverbased - that means: all data is send to the server. Therefore the other team can't get your IP addresses and therefore can't DoS you.

And there is no way you instantly die without taking damage - that would mean someone intruded the GW servers - and this is very unlikely.

I guess you missed the numbers from the edge bomb - it is really instant death...

what would be funny is if they cheated and still lost. like once in CS there was a clear cheater on the other team, he ran uber fast and hsed you every time. fun thing was he still got owned

aaahi bet the koreans all had 56k connects and ran disk defrag at the same time for uber lag
